L’appartement 22 hosts from July 14th till August 31st, 2015 Emmanuel Iduma and Emeka Okereke for a research based residency and artistic productions. The two members of Invisible Borders, invited by Curator Abdellah Karroum, will question the relationships between the borders of Rabat, Tangier and Melilla by meeting and by sharing the everyday life and the experiences of the migrants. Emeka Okereke not having been able to obtain entry visa to Morocco, the alternative ways of intervention for this residency, becoming a trans-african action between Morocco and Nigeria, using a larger real and virtual geography, artist and writer working at a distance and in collaboration with the close and the far connections influencing art and its places of production.
In this special program for R22, participants and members of Invisible Borders share discussions with the actors of the cultural and activists scene involved in the questions of migration, exile and borders.

This first Skype conversation between Emeka Okereke talking from Abuja, following the denial of his visa to travel to Morocco, and Emmanuel Iduma and Abdellah Karroum at L’appartement 22 in Rabat. A conversation with Driss Ksikes, playwright, freelance journalist, and theatre practitioner in Rabat. Ksikes describes himself as an “organic connector,” highlighting the numerous ways in which he plays an active role in Moroccan culture and cultural politics. Speaking with Emmanuel Iduma, one of the artists currently in residence at L’appartement 22, Ksikes explains his approach to theatre and politics.
EPISODE 2 CONVERSATION
Emeka Okereke and Emmanuel Iduma, artists in residence at L’appartment 22, discuss the origin, nature, and impulses for the project. They touch on the significance of Emeka’s absence in Morocco, in connection to Emmanuel’s presence there. This conversation is first in a series of recorded Skype conversations between the two artists, one in Nigeria and the other in Morocco.
This conversation with Yvanovitch Mbaya took place at the abandoned abattoir at Casablanca, a colonial relic from the 1920s now being used by several groups—including art organizations, circuses—as hub for their activities. Mbaya was part of an exhibition of sculptures held in one of the large, warehouse-like parts of the abattoir. He took us upstairs to his studio, where we stood for the duration of our chat.
In parts of our chat, you can hear birds chirping and trains approaching. The ambience was perfect for a conversation about Mbaya’s practice and his interest about traditional trance practices.
