R22 On Palermo and Sicily //
R22 is now installed at Palazzo Riso in Palermo, Sicily. R22 art radio features a program broadcasting throughout the city during the summer 2010. R22 Palermo looks forward the activation of an archive of art practices belonging to their "place" of creation: Palermo and Sicily. The attempt is that of exploring the city and its cultural context through a multidisciplinary approach and contributions.

-  Progetto Isole , curated by Barbara D’Ambrosio (Roma) e Costanza Meli (Palermo), aims at investigating the territory and fostering creative interventions in public spaces. Progetto Isole as an ongoing project has been articulated in two different localities: Isola delle Femmine and Piana degli Albanesi.

- At the Orto Botanico of Palermo R22 encounters Lelio Giannetto, musician as well as director of Curva Minore Association. He talks about the Soundscape studies and research in a view of exploring the configuration of Palermo’s urban context, geographically and historically.

- Ignazio Emanuele Buttitta, teacher of Folk traditions History at University of Palermo and director of Folkstudio in Palermo, analyses the connections within society, territory and religiosity.

- Sounds recordings from the urban context of Palermo. The historical markets of the city as Vucciria , Capo and Ballarò are investigated in their "stratifications" of sounds: the old and the new coexist. Via Calderai : the traditional profession of making braziers is kept alive.
- Ufficial bands of musicians keep on playing throughout characterized quarters of the city during the feast.

- Aiming to discover the art scene of Palermo and Sicily, R22 engages a conversation with Giovanni Iovane, curator for Sacs Archive of young local artists.

-  Festino di S.Rosalia : observed festivity by the Patron saint of Palermo, every year on July 15th. A decorated float carries the Saint statue for a religious procession through the Cassaro area, but this also is the feast of all citizens. The sacrum (religious tradition) and the profane (carnival tradition) live together.
